Joanna Acevedo is the Editor in Chief of Frontier Poetry. She’s happiest writing, collaborating, and creating resources for artists of all disciplines. Author of three books and two chapbooks, she has been nominated for a Pushcart and Best of the Net, and her work has been seen across the web and in print, most recently or forthcoming in Cream City Review, The North American Review, and Hunger Mountain. She writes across genres, from fiction to literary criticism to poetry and everything in between, and she often jokes that she’s had “every job in publishing,” from the very glamorous event coordinator to the self-help ghostwriter, in addition to handling bulk mailing as an intern and getting way too familiar with the filters in the back end of Submittable.
At the core of her practice is collaboration. Although she’s worked with writers and artists making everything from documentary films to science fiction, she wants to build community and create resources that serve writers and artists at every stage of their career. WIth her dynamic skill set, she hopes to bring a new and unique perspective to literary publishing, particularly focused on those living with severe mental illness or who are otherwise disabled, and her own identity serves to give her insight into these particular spaces. Making art is difficult business. Each person needs a different set of tools to get there. We all have our stories to tell, and Joanna’s approach to creative consulting is centered around story, first: how can we work together to tell your story and what do we need to get you there?
